Services Provided by Student Assistance (SA) 

SA offers services to help students and their families.  Our services include:

  • Short-term individual counseling
  • Student support groups (not available in all schools) 
  • Liaison to community resources 
  • Referral aid, follow-up support and collaboration with community-based mental health service providers  
  • Faculty/Teaching Team consultation
  • Classroom presentations
  • Parent conference and consultation
  • Disciplinary Appeal Hearings (in accordance with school board policy) 
  • Screening for substance abuse risk
  • Screening for depression 
  • Drug abuse and mental health information
  • Substance abuse and tobacco education

What is New Horizons?

New Horizons is a substance abuse intervention and counseling program implemented in the Manassas City Public Schools (MCPS) in 1989.  It is not an MCPS program.  New Horizons is a service porvided by Prince William County Community Services.  The New Horizons office serving Manassas City is located at 7969 Aston Avenue, Manassas, VA  20110.

MCPS provides office space for New Horizons in Osbourn High School.  In the public schools, New Horizons offers individual and group counseling.  Therapy does not take place on school grounds.  Shoud a student request or be deemed appropriate for therapy (treatment for a substance abuse related, personal or family problem), the family is provided an opportunity to obtain this through the office on Ashton Avenue.
